Chemically, gold is considered as a transitional metal. The term malleable and ductile used to describe gold means that it can be extremely flexible, and also it forms an alloy with any metal easily.
In the crudest form, gold is always found with quartz. It is not very pleasing to the eye and looks like quartz. However, when it is separated from the quartz, and it is oxidized and put through some chemical processes, which are meant to purify the metal, gold gets its true form and color as we know it.
